Visual Retailing Solutions Help Garcia Jeans Make Light Work of Collection Books Garcia Jeans, an international jeans and lifestyle brand, has been able to dramatically reduce the time needed to produce its collection books with Visual Retailing solutions. It also uses the products to design the layouts of its stores and franchise shops throughout Europe. Garcia Jeans was established in the Netherlands in 1977 and the brand is owned and distributed by the wholesaler Eurobrooks BV. The Garcia brand has a distinctive signature that differentiates it from other denim brands in a crowded market. With a target group of men and women between 25 and 45 and children from 8 to 16, Garcia Jeans produces a total of ten collections per year with twenty delivery windows. This helps ensure good product turnover for its retail partners and its own monobrand stores. Following on from the launch of the Garcia Kids range and the brand’s international expansion, managers at Eurobrooks decided in 2006 to increase the number of annual collections from four to ten. The move was designed to increase the brand’s visibility on the international market and increase its footprint with its retail partners. Staff had been using a complex system to produce collection books, extracting style data from the ERP system and retyping it manually into a technical drawing and page layout program. They did this one style at a time, making it a very time-consuming process even with four collections a year. With the increase to ten annual collections, the technical drawing solution was simply not viable in terms of efficiency and productivity. Through their industry contacts, managers at Garcia Jeans heard about Visual Retailing’s solutions designed to solve exactly this kind of dilemma. Instead of complicated lists of style numbers and technical drawing solutions needing specialised knowledge, Visual Retailing’s Sampleroom product is an interactive range visualisation tool. It combines a graphical database with applications that allow users to manage, analyse and present their range. The database comprises product photos along with detailed style information, and users can sort styles by any criteria they choose. Once they have put together the range of styles required, they can produce the collection book in minutes. “The boost in productivity since we started using Visual Retailing’s Sampleroom has been remarkable,” comments Louk van de Sanden, Managing Director at Garcia Jeans / Eurobrooks BV. “It used to take weeks to produce collection books semi-manually, and there was always the risk of errors creeping in to the process. Now, we sort and select the styles we want with the mouse, and a few minutes later we have a professional-looking range book. Along with the efficiency gains, it makes a difference to the way we’re perceived by our retail partners. We can show them the range in a much more appealing way, and it’s easier for them to choose styles they think will sell best and give them a good return.” Garcia Jeans staff also use Sampleroom’s storyboard tools to associate different items and create complete outfits. Users simply drag and drop garments from the database, and the storyboard tool automatically imports style and product data for each one. For Garcia Jeans, this is a useful feature that also helps its retail partners select more coordinating garments for their sales area and increase shopfloor space for the Garcia Jeans brand. | |
