Marks & Spencer, Visual Merchandising Fashion, Retail software solution, Store planogram

In 2013 Marks and Spencer contacted Visual Retailing for a space planning and store presentation project. The goal was to align the merchandise planning, buying and visual merchandising processes, to minimize the gaps between information and decisions for buying, VM and store execution.

After a thorough vendor selection process, Visual Retailing and their MockShop software were selected due to their functionally rich solutions and deep industry knowledge. Visual Retailing has experience working with companies small and large and could draw on best practices to implement the software.

"We identified a need to become much more future focused so (...) we found Visual Retailing."

"Before it was a purely functional process. Now it's almost like a no risk method."

"Customers notice we merchandise differently. It reflects in the shopping experience."

Rachel was part of the team that decided to roll out MockShop. She explains how using the system is a part of a bigger plan to make M&S stores more inspirational, product, trend and fashion focused. Together with Visual Retailing, M&S have come a lot closer to that goal.

Melissa is now the MockShop champion of her VM team, creating and communicating guidelines to stores. She is happy to use it since its more creative than the system M&S had before. Her favorite feature of MockShop as a package is its integration.  As she says, you never have to keep track of changes since the system will.

Alice is one of the regional managers receiving the MockShop guidelines from head office. She manages the stores in her region, using her iPad to view guidelines. According to Alice, customers do notice store changes, reflecting in the shopping experience and proving the importance of her work. With the new software and process in place, customers get the same experience from one store to the next.

During the Womenswear implementation, store teams from other departments were actively asking to get the same improved way of working. Luckily they didn’t have to wait long, once the benefits were clear it was decided to roll-out MockShop to all business units.

M&S started the project within the Womenswear division. After the successful implementation, MockShop is now in use at Womenswear, Menswear, Kidswear, Lingerie and the Home-Accessories department.
